However, every day we witness how this paradise is deliberately privatized and destroyed for the sake of private consumption and exploitation. Although our landscape should be the most valuable legacy we leave to future generations, unfortunately, even access to our beaches has become a privilege limited to a few.
This short film seeks to conceptualize the experience of immersing oneself in our natural environment with the firm intention of preserving that experience we fear losing. These are spaces where the simple act of shouting is prohibited, and through this work, we aim to convey the urgency of protecting and sharing the beauty that surrounds us before it disappears before our eyes.
"Like Breath Upon My Chest" - A 24min documentary short film exploring the deep ties my mother has to Puerto Rico, the home she was torn from at 7 years old. She speaks of plants, and roots that don't belong in Texas - the home shared by my mother, father and me. When my father passed away, she become unmoored in this vast desert and still looks back towards Puerto Rico for spiritual sustenance. This film combines my own footage as well as her footage from when she was in college attempting to document her own idea of Puerto Rico and the new life with my father. We speak across landscapes and time.
"Heels" - With the help of his supportive mother, Frankie, a young Puerto Rican man, prepares for his first performance as a Drag Queen while trying to keep it a secret from his disapproving father. Through a night of celebration, self-discovery, and heartbreak, Frankie learns the meaning of home- and the sacrifice of chasing your wildest dreams.
"OMG" - A young female artist is trying to evolve her aesthetic. Little does she know that change is much harder than she thinks…
"Papi" - Hector Jr. tries to navigate the complexities of reconciliation and self-identity amidst his father's COVID-19 crisis.
