Sunu Chandy (she/her) is currently a Senior Advisor with Democracy Forward, supporting work across the teams including fighting attacks on racial equity, diversity, and inclusion, and working alongside partner organizations to help build a nation that does right by all of us. Sunu is also the author of an award-winning collection of poems, My Dear Comrades, published in 2023. Â
She served as the Legal Director of the National Women's Law Center for six years and led the center's litigation efforts. She also helped create the Center's Legal Network for Gender Equity, guided the Center's policy positions toward greater workplace justice, and led their LGBBTQ+ rights-related policy work.
Until 2017, Sunu was the Deputy Director of the Civil Rights Division with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and before that, she was the General Council of the DC Office of Human Rights (OHR). You can find out more information about Sunu at https://www.sunuchandy.net
