South Asian artists are pushing the boundaries of musical genres with deep North American roots. Shamik shares his journey of getting into the artform of beatboxing, and what it's like to be a vocal percussionist. He will be teaching some of the basics of beatbox while exploring hip hop and electronic influences.
Shamik is a South Asian producer and beatboxer. He has performed in 15 countries, and toured with Method Man & Redman, Tanya Tagaq, DJ Q-Bert, and DJ Kentaro. He has opened for Flying Lotus, George Benson, Dam Funk, Kool Herc, The Glitch Mob, Dub FX, and Excision. Internationally, he has showcased at Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Southbound, Sub Sonic (Australia), Sunburn, Mood Indigo (India), Electric Forest (USA), and Dubplate (Philippines).
In 2020, his song Gaali was featured in Rolling Stone India and VH1 India. In 2021, he was featured as A Vibe Called Next on BBC Asian Network hosted by Almass Badat. His album CI3, the third instalment of his Channeling India series, has now reached 250 000 streams on Spotify. Shamik is the founder of Sensing Waves, a label which focuses on deep, ambient, and leftfield music. In the past 8 years he has curated 20 releases, and he also hosts the Sensing Airwaves podcast.
